Mr. Yıldırım was born in 1966 in Üsküdar, İstanbul. He completed his primary and secondary education in Beylerbeyi. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at İstanbul University in 1987.
In 1988, after winning a competitive examination intended for training academic staff, he went to the United Kingdom for postgraduate studies. He received his master’s degree at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, in 1989, and his PhD degree at the Faculty of Economics and Social Studies, University of Manchester, in 1994. Between 1994 and 2010, he served as a faculty member at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Sakarya University. From 2003 to 2010, he also held the position of dean at the same faculty.
On 9 April 2010, he was appointed as a Justice of the Constitutional Court by the President from amongst three candidates nominated by the General Assembly of the Higher Education Council, and he took office on 15 April 2010.
He was elected as the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court by the Plenary of the Constitutional Court on 19 October 2015. His term as Vice-President ended on 25 October 2019, and he continues to serve as a justice.
Mr. Engin Yıldırım, who is proficient in English, is married with two children.
